The Blue Hour

The 'Blue Hour' comes after sunset, when it's pretty dark out.  People walk by as ask me what the heck I'm taking pictures of, it's so dark you can't possibly get a decent photograph.  The two photos here were taken a half hour to 45 minutes after the sun went down, not that there was much sun showing yesterday...it was mostly overcast and windy as heck by the river. I like the Blue Hour.

Old Fish House

My guess is this old structure on the end of a pier was used to sort and clean fish after the day's catch. I imagine the trolly transported the catch to shore and the waiting truck which took it to local restaurants and markets.    I don't know if that is even close to the real story but it's what I imagine.  The pier is now in disrepair and no longer reaches the shore, but there are still trolly tracks on the shore and another old building where fish is sold. I could stop in to that store and possibly find out the real history but for now I prefer to let my imagination have a go at it.  Maybe it was used by 'rum-runners' or drug smugglers...

Bengal the Tiger Dog

A most unusual looking dog at our session at the Humane Society Monday, he is aptly named Bengal and looks and paces around just like his namesake.  A really beautiful animal who is bound to be a conversation starter when his new adoptive family takes him for a walk.

Halloween Pups

A little Halloween motif from this week's photo session at the Humane Society...it took 3 'puppy wranglers' to gather this group together and get them all in the wagon at the same time. And they managed to stay put for about 1/10th of a second.   That's Debbie, their mom, pictured below.

Cover Shot

I'm proud to share this photo of Rosie and her new colt Howard. Rosie, along with Billy were rescued by the Humane Society a few months ago and both were in terrible shape. Billy, the stallion, looked like a skeleton covered by a blanket. Rosie, who was pregnant when rescued, was not in much better shape. After months of care and lots of good feed both are doing well and as you can see Rosie gave birth to a healthy foal.

This photograph was featured on the cover of the Humane Times, the Humane Society's magazine, and I took it only a few days after Howard was born.  The second photo is Billy.
